In questo triplo album The Return of the Fabulous Hofner Bluenotes, Chris Rea riesce a ricreare utilizzando il classic blues (da lui molto amato), un magico e fantasioso viaggio attraverso la storia di quattro amici, diventati prima un giovane gruppo e poi una vera band di professionisti. C'è qualcosa di magico, antico e romantico in questo progetto. Per iniziare il booket, dove attraverso le fotografie viene sviluppata la trama. Le immagini quindi sono il mezzo per raccontare questa storia, che si sviluppa diventando prima, il giovane primo gruppo: (The Return of the Fabulous Hofner Bluenotes - Disco 1&2) con un sound soulful, e bluesey, un po il marchio di sempre di Chris Rea - con una fantastica chitarra slide, che genera magiche melodie e naturalmente l'incredibile voce di Chris, tegliata a misura per il blues! Per poi tramutarsi e diventare la band matura dei Delmonts(Disco 3) con il sound a fare il verso ai Shadows.

I fan di Rea troveranno echi di Espresso Logic, e Blue Blue Cafe in questo progetto, daltronde questo è il suo marchio di fabbrica, e il suo suono è tutto lì, nel mix tenue della chitarra, e nel profondo graffiare della sua voce.
