Con questo Back to Basics la Aguilera mette in mostra tutti i suoi numeri per essere considerata definitivamente la vera nuova Diva del soul r&b. La voce è grandiosa, lo stile è demarcato, la presenza ineccepibile, il tutto poi è messo a disposizione di un disco - Back To Basics - non facile e multigenere (considerando gli stili retro in cui si muove). Ma proprio in questo X-tina si distingue, disegnando un suo percorso completamente fuori dalla canzonetta fine a se stessa, e che la porterà sicuramente a non essere più una cantante per teenagers, stile Spears.

Questo doppio CD per un totale di 23 canzoni è un'opera notevole. Con Ain’t No Other Man, la Aguilera ha dato il la alla scalata delle classifiche. Il disco comunque è pieno di canzoni di alto livello come Makes Me Wanna, con un sample dei Traffic di Steve Winwood , Understand, Candyman, oppure le ballate, Oh Mother e Hurt.
